FAQ’s

When is the next Ride to Live class?

Coronado PD typically hosts 6 classes each year. Our classes are scheduled between September and May. There are no classes during the summer months; June, July, and August. Our Eventbrite page will show all active training dates. We try to post new classes about 6 weeks for the event date.

How do I register for a class?

All registration for Ride to Live is handled through our Eventbrite page (https://copdridetolive.eventbrite.com). Participants can also use the link found on the homepage.

Is there a waitlist?

No. We’ve found it’s too difficult to manage a waitlist in addition to handling our normal duties at the police department. If a class is full, we encourage you to sign up for a future date as soon as possible. The class is popular and spaces fill quickly.

I am a new rider. Can I participate in this class?

Yes. Ride to Live is open to any rider with a valid license (with motorcycle endorsement) and a motorcycle. However, our class is very challenging, and our experience has shown that new riders can struggle. If you want to assess your skills, find a safe place to practice U-turns. If you can comfortably perform a U-turn within a 24-ft area without putting your feet on the ground, you’ll be able to complete our course.

Can I have a passenger during the class?

We discourage carrying a passenger during the course.

Does this class qualify me for a discount with my insurance company?

Maybe. We provide participants with a certificate of completion and some of our past students have been able to use that for a discount. We encourage you to speak with your insurance provider.

Can I participate in the Ride to Live class instead of taking the riding skills test for my M1 license?

No. The California Motorcyclist Safety Program, administered by the California Highway Patrol, is the only training course that provides a waiver for the DMV skills test.

I’m part of a club. Can you present a class just for our group?

No. Our grant provides funding for a specific number of courses each year. This prevents us from hosting additional classes outside of our normal schedule.

Your class is awesome. How can I donate to the program?

Although we appreciate the offer, we cannot accept donations. Ride to Live is 100% free and is funded through grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the Coronado Police Department.
